Jay Z and The Weinstein Co. are teaming to bring the tragedy of Trayvon Martin’s murder to a screen near you.
It is in the works to become both a movie and a television series. The two releases will be based on books Suspicion Nation: The Inside Story of the Trayvon Martin Injustice, written by trial attorney and NBC analyst Lisa Bloom and Why We Continue to Repeat It and Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin, written by Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin (Trayvon Martin’s parents) and the trial of George Zimmerman and his acquittal. Jay Z and The Weinstein Co. have gained the rights to use the information from the books.
The docuseries and the film will use a narrative approach reenacting about the history of our country at the time, in hope to educate future generations about where they’ve been and how far they’ve got to go. It is said one will be scripted and the other will be unscripted, which is which is unknown.
Jay Z and The Weinstein Co. signed on to the deal back in late 2016. No release date of the film and docuseries has been set.
