Improving the Quality of Life with Solar Energy

When it comes to elevating conditions and improving the quality of living, genuine concern and collaborative effort cannot be overemphasized. This was the case for a remote community in Kenya which struggled with a deplorable light situation for a very long time. It is quite common to find many settlements in Africa and many parts of Asia with epileptic power supply. In other cases, light supply could be a colossal disappointment with the area being cut off completely from what is quite frankly an indispensible accessory to comfortable and productive living.

Through share determination and a sense of goodwill, the people of OLOSHO-OIBOR in Kenya were able to gain the attention of the United Nations development organization UNIDO, an agency of UNO that is concerned with industrial advancement. However, the journey towards having light in the OLOSHO-OIBOR, community began with a few members of the community investigating an alternative source of electricity. The community had been plagued by power outage owing to being separated from the national power supply. This made life very hard for the people while incapacitating any form of small scale business.

In response to this precarious situation, concerned members of the community began to investigate the potentials of solar energy. Though joint savings they were able to make this dream a reality with solar panels to light up homes. While getting solar panels is one feat, maintenance and sustainability became an obvious challenge for the community which is where UNIDO stepped in. UNIDO was particularly relevant in preparing selected members of the village for maintenance of the solar panels. The CPC which stands for Community Power Center has been actively involved in making sure that there is relatively constant light in the community. Additionally, UNIDO also provided a whopping 80 percent cut on the provided solar panels.

Through the unwavering support of UNIDO, the community of OLOSHO-OIBOR is able to maintain one of the CPC has been largely fruitful with very few glitches in the technical area. The contributions of CPC and the enabling efforts of UNIDO have radically transformed the lives and businesses of many in Kenya. The increasing constancy of light means that businesses can flourish and the general welfare of the people can be improved. Resident Lydia Mboyo commended the efforts of the CPC while acknowledging how the current light situation has facilitated the steady progression of her business.
The many benefits of constant electricity to the people is inexhaustible as the state of light in the community has opened avenue for economic growth. One of the benefits of steady electricity is that it has also improved the ICT sector which has provided a source of livelihood for many locals who charge phones and learn basic computer skills. The contributions of CPC have also been relevant in fighting many areas of primitive social life by providing help that is CPC has helped girls avoid circumcision and early marriage.

Although there are monetary constraints, the CPC continues to change the community positively while empowering the people for progress. The contributions of the CPC have made the lives of the people better while gradually changing their harsh reality to a more comforting and promising paradise for the average man.
