September 3, 2018/ Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a nonprofit dedicated to finding cures for all kids with cancer, challenges people everywhere to go the extra mile in September during The Million Mile 2018, presented by Volvo. Returning for its sixth year during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (September), participants will turn awareness into action by collectively running, walking and/or cycling a million miles to raise funds for childhood cancer research. The Million Mile is the largest Childhood Cancer Awareness Month challenge that funds researchers so they can find better treatments and more cures for kids battling cancer.
Whether supporters are casual walkers or joggers, avid cyclists or marathoners, everyone can make a difference in the lives of children fighting cancer. ALSF’s goal is to collectively log a million miles and raise over $1 million during the month of September.
The ambitious goal of one million miles is inspired by all families who are battling childhood cancer and how far they would go to find cures for their children. While logging miles and raising funds, Million Mile participants are showing support for these families. Since The Million Mile began, participants have logged almost four million miles and raised more than $3.8 million for childhood cancer research.
In three easy steps, participants can start making a difference in the lives of kids with cancer. First, register on TheMillionMile.org. Participants can choose to start a team, join an already existing team or participate on their own. It is easy to sign up and there is no registration fee or minimum fundraising requirement. Second, they can invite family and friends to join and support. Participants can share their team page via email and social media. Last, participants log miles during September and ask friends and family to make a one-time donation or pledge per mile to support their efforts.
“September is an important month in the childhood cancer community,” said Jay Scott co-executive director of ALSF and Alex’s dad. “The Million Mile is a great challenge for individuals and teams to take action in the fight against childhood cancer. We hope that through the shared efforts of participants we can bring awareness and funds to innovative and effective childhood cancer research.”
