AUSTIN, TEXAS/ AUGUST 16, 2018/ Austin maven for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Ryan “Wheelz” Schmidt hosts “Ryan’s Day 9,” benefiting non-profit organization “Inspiration on Wheelz” for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy – featuring live music, volleyball, raffle/auction, kid’s activities, and “The Wasabi Challenge.” (WEBSITE: http://www.wheelzband.com)This young artist on a mission has attracted the attention of celebrities near and far, whom support Ryan’s Day by donating various autographed items for the raffle and auction. This year, amongst the many collectibles is an Earl Campbell jersey, signed by the legend himself. Former UT Coach Mack Brown comments, “Anyone that is involved with this awful disease knows Wheelz and knows what he’s done to promote and educate people to try and get a cure. He’s a guy that’s whipping the disease, he’s working every year, and I know the rapping’s going really, really well.” Currently “Wheelz” has 3 full length CD’s available: “In The Beginning,” “Determined” and “2Determined,” all available @ wheelzband.com.
This years’ event will be held at Hanover’s 2.0 located at 16912 N Interstate Hwy 35, Austin, TX 78728 Saturday September 29th from 12–6pm. This family-friendly event will feature local bands – including a performance by Wheelz himself! Other festivities include: sand volleyball, kid’s activities, prize raffle, auction, food & drink specials, dunk tank, and the 5th annual “WASABI CHALLENGE.” (Honoring Darius Weems, referencing memorable “Goslabi” scene in movie Darius Goes West: http://www.dariusgoeswest.org) Ryan’s Day will also feature some of Austin’s top original & cover bands. This year Ryan’s Day also brings “KISS FOR A CURE.” For every $100 donated by local businesses, Ryan “Wheelz” Schmidt will receive a kiss from one of the many surprise guests. Businesses can “show their love and support” by putting their money where their mouth is!
The mission of the organization is to improve the treatment, quality of life, and long-term outlook for all individuals affected by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) through research, advocacy, education, and compassion. DMD is the most common fatal genetic disorder diagnosed during early childhood and is progressive causing muscle disorder that causes loss of muscle function and independence.
“Ryan’s Day” is an annual celebration open to the public on Saturday September 29th, 2018 at Hanover’s 2.0 located at 16912 N Interstate Hwy 35, Austin, TX 78728 from 12pm-6pm. $5 requested donation to attend.
