SOUTHFIELD, Mich., March 8, 2018 – This region has been marked with civil unrest, which has led to an unimaginable humanitarian crisis. There is a massive refugee population with many living below the poverty line in Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Tunisia, and many other countries. The 7th year of this ongoing crisis in Syria has left an estimated 470,000 people dead with more than 50% displaced as numbers continue to climb from recent attacks. Of the over 4,810,216 registered Syrian refugees 635,324 are residing in Jordan where 86% are living below the local poverty line. Over 13.5 million people are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance inside the country.
Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD) has been providing humanitarian relief and assistance to Syrian refugees through the efforts of its HHRD Middle East North Africa (MENA) office in Jordan over the past several years. In 2013 HHRD became a registered NGO in the region and has been actively engaged with enforcing 9 of its programs which have helped well over 1 million people in Jordan, Lebanon and Tunisia.
HHRD is successfully operating an Orphan Support Program which is providing livelihood and subsistence to over 2,000 orphans. Through educational support programs, winter and summer camps, medical checkups, and financial assistance these children are given countless opportunities. In Kind Gifts bring 40 foot containers full of winter clothing, medical supplies, nonperishable foods, toys and more to be distributed throughout the year for those who left their homes with nothing. The Shelter Relief program allows families to move from unsecure tents to micro-shelter homes which provide protection from environmental elements. Through the Skills Development program, educational training and courses empower refugees to live a self-sustaining life.
Recent developments in Syria show little to no sign of the conflict resolving. As a result, HHRD USA urges donors to support its Syrian Refugee Humanitarian Assistance Fund to help those who cross into neighboring countries with hopes of survival.
HHRD is a global humanitarian organization responding to human sufferings in emergency situations around the world regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, class and religion. To donate please visit www.hhrd.org or call 1-888-808-4357(HELP).
