FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., May 5, 2017 – Debbie’s Dream Foundation: Curing Stomach Cancer (DDF) is proud to announce that its 2017 Youth Leadership Council (YLC) Essay Contest is officially open for submissions. For the second year in a row, children across the country between the ages of 5 to 18 are encouraged to write essays on the subject of gastric cancer research for a chance to win cash prizes.
The YLC Essay Contest is spearheaded by Co-Presidents of the YLC, Brittany Gendler, a junior at Western High School in Plantation, Florida and Daniela Schwartz, a junior at Cypress Bay High School in Weston, Florida. The contest consists of three categories: elementary, middle, and high school. Each category has a different essay prompt which includes questions regarding dreams, thoughts, and financial resources for curing stomach cancer. “We are very excited to have another YLC essay contest since it allows high school, middle, and elementary school students to actively learn more about stomach cancer,” said Schwartz. “Unlike other essays that are written in school, this essay contest can help students make a difference in their community.”
One winner will be selected in each category and will receive a cash prize of $700 for the high school winner, $200 for the middle school winner, and $100 for the elementary school winner. Submissions will be accepted from April 26th to May 26, 2017. The essays will be judged by DDF’s panel of celebrity judges, and winners will be announced on June 23, 2017. “I believe our contest is a great opportunity for the youth of today who are the leaders of tomorrow, to get involved in our cause,” said Gendler. “With cash prizes of up to $700 for winners, it’s an added incentive to get involved and earn some extra spending money.”
